4 Benefits that Prove Social Media Marketing is Important

Business owners not using social media for customer connections is the 1995 equivalent of not having a phone line.

An estimated 42% of the entire population is active on at least one social media channel, daily (Emarsys, 2019). That’s right, that means about 3.2 billion people are going to a certain source on a recurring basis. Oh, and that number is growing every year! If you are a business owner and you don’t have a social media presence, you are missing out on a huge opportunity to increase your business. Furthermore, not having a social media presence for your business can even be damaging to your business.

Find out just what your business is missing by reading below.

Direct Communication

At the end of the day, the difference between a successful and not successful business is the one who better satisfied their customer’s need. Now in order to satisfy a customer’s need, the business needs to have a direct line of communication with existing and potential customers. This can open the door for product promotion, getting in front of a shopping consumer at the right time, and even allowing the opportunity to look for potential product opportunities for the future.

Doesn’t all that sound amazing? Well, you could be missing out on all that and more by not having your business present on social media.

Social media outlets original purpose was to encourage users to be social. Meaning it’s extremely encouraged to connect with your current customers and keep an eye out for potential new customers by creating posts, sharing content, and liking other business pages in your area.

Creating a network around your business gets consumers invested in more than your product and business, but in the community you have created.

Reaching an Audience

Back to the whole “connection” piece. Connecting with your customers and injecting yourself into the social community around you will expand your business reach, significantly.

When I say significantly, think of it this way. You get 100 of your customers to connect with your business page, you’re sharing content that they’re excited about so 20 of your customers share something from your business with their network of 500 friends (each!) That just took your business from being in front of 100 people to 10,000 with one post!

Increasing your audience with social media means that you will put yourself in front of more potential customers, which increases your opportunity to make a good impression and a higher chance of getting in front of more people at the time they’re making a buying decision, which leads to more sales, which grows your business.

Showing Off Your Business

Maybe you don’t think that you need social media because you already have a bustling business and a slew of happy customers? While, that is awesome for you and your business, but don’t you want to show that off?

Happy customers create new customers. Giving your patrons a place to leave a positive review, post a picture of their new purchase, or share their experience with others and tag your business is the gold standard of why social media is important to businesses.

On the flip side, angry customers like to talk about their negative experience. While this is not something any business wants to see, the reality is that it happens. However, all customer comments are opportunities to improve and having an outlet to see and respond to an unhappy customer will show incoming consumers that you take the customer’s experience seriously.

Consumer Verification

Gone are the days of the uneducated consumer. In the age of the internet, society is doing their research on any and all purchases to ensure they are making the right decision. In fact, according to IBM, 75% of customers say they use social media as part of the buying process.

Consumers look for information such as verified customer reviews, product tutorials and information as well as checking the authenticity of the brand. Social media is also widely used to seek recommendations from their connections and is a great opportunity for brands to get in front of a consumer during the sales process.

With more than 50 million businesses using a Facebook page to connect with their customers, odds are your competition is already getting social with their customers. Meaning that when (not if) potential consumers are doing their due diligence before shopping, they might be turning to your competitor when they’re unable to verify the authenticity of your business on social media.

Missed Marketing Opportunity

We have already highlighted that your current and potential customers are on social media. So how do you reach them? Advertising with social media is simple, cost-effective and can have a substantial impact upon your business when done correctly.

There are opportunities to run promotions strictly to those that follow your page or account. You can also create audiences to find new customers based on your consumer data. Furthermore, there are advertising opportunities to raise awareness about your business to a specific location. This would be a great way to increase traffic to your business, get the word out about a promotion or sale, or advertise a new move.

We know that social media presence, engagement and marketing are tools that every business should be using. Follow us on social media and connect with us to build our businesses!
